Restoring prairie grasslands is a valuable ecological endeavor. Here are the basic steps we plan to use to restore our grasslands to conservation prairie:

  1. Site Assessment:

    • Identify the site characteristics and define goals for the restoration.
    • Identify species at risk.
  2. Vegetation Removal:

    • Remove existing weeds and undesired vegetation from the site to prevent aggressive weedy species from out-competing native prairie plants.
  3. Seed Selection and Planting:

    • Choose a seed mix that closely mimics native prairie, providing habitat and food for native insects, including pollinators, and wildlife.
  4. Management:

    • Implement management practices such as controlled burns, grazing, or mowing to maintain the health of the prairie.
  5. Monitoring:

    • Regularly monitor the site to assess the success of the restoration efforts and make adjustments as needed.
